The 42 Drive-In opened July 14, 1967, with a ‘soft’ opening. The grand opening was August 10, 1967, screening the 1967 war/action film “The Dirty Dozen” with Lee Marvin, Ernest Borgnine and Charles Bronson. It was opened by Jerry W. Selby who also operated Selby Products. Jerry was well known for the building of screen towers for drive-in theatres. Co-Operative Theatres of Ohio, Inc. was the buying and booking agency. The new drive-in had room for 600 cars on the parking ramps.
In 1969 Jerry leased the drive-in to another theatre operator. It might have been Modern Theatres of Cleveland? His business in building and erection of screen towers, plus operating the drive-in was too much. Selby finally closed the 42 Drive-In in September of 1987. The property was sold and the drive-in was demolished except for the screen tower, which is still standing in 2016. Maybe its a tribute to Selby Products!

A wonderful letter from this drive-in’s projectionist was published in the 9/30/68 issue of Boxoffice magazine.
