The Cine Journal (also known as cinejournal) was opened on 22nd October 1936 with 368-seats, presenting continuous shows from 10am for a programme of short films lasting 1-hour. It had a very narrow entrance. In 1956 it was enlarged to the plans of architect M. Tourret by the addition of a balcony and the seating capacity was increased to 534-seats. In 1977 it became a triplex when two more screens were added. In 1984 it was taken over by the U.G.C. chain, and in 1984 it was renamed UGC Cinema Journal and became the regional headquarters for U.G.C. In 1991-1992 it was renovated and reopened with 5-screens and reopened in 1992 as the Pathe Cine Journal. It has since closed.
