In Vinaròs, a fishing port in eastern Spain, in the province of Castellon, construction on the Coliseum Cinema began in 1958. Designed by Mr Llorca, an architect from Tortosa, in Catalonia, it was owned by the Jaques brothers, and it opened in 1962.
It was initially extremely popular, but that waned and it closed on 31st December 1989.
After remaining shuttered for four years, the Coliseum Cinema re-opened on 8th October 1993, thanks to a grant from the city council, and was put under the management of Juan José Figuerola, the owner of the J.J. Cinema in the town (see separate Cinema Treasures entry).
Unfortunately, the cinema closed again in 2001.
In December 2025 local media reported that the council intended to purchase it and convert it into a second municipal theatre, especially as the current one only has a capacity of around 200.
