There was a second, short-lived drive-in in Wellington. M. D. Unterback, or something close to that name, built the 300-car Sunset Drive-In in the summer of 1952. In December 1956, he ran a classified advertisement that read, “For sale, complete drive-in theatre. Dirt cheap, must be moved. M. D. Otterback, Wellington, Kas.”
In between, the 1955-56 Theatre Catalog included the Sunset Drive-In in Wellington. It was owned by Dewey Utterback and C. R. Gregg.
A 1956 aerial photo showed a drive-in about a mile north of Wellington. By 1968 it had been replaced by farmland with no trace of a theater, which is how it looks today. There’s a towing service across the street from the site; that’s the address above.

A 1966 topo doesn’t list the drive-in, meaning that it may’ve closed earlier than that.
Boxoffice, Aug. 9, 1952: “Complete RCA equipment has been installed at the Utterback Drive-In, Wellington, Kas., which will open soon”
