Located in the small town of Troyes, to the southeast of Paris. Built on the site of a wooden circus building which was destoyed by fire in 1892. The Cirque Municipal was opened in 1905. It was a purpose-built circus building designed in a flamboyant Neo-Classical style designed by architect Henri Schmitt. In 1907 it became the Splidid Bioscope Cinematograph screening films from 17th May to 29th September 1907. In 1909 it was renamed The Splendid, operating as a cinema and concert venue.

The Splendid closed as a cinema in 1975, it was classified as a National Monument. Following restoration, it reopened in 1978 as a live performance venue named Teatre Champagne. It screens films occasionally when there is no stage production.
