Airdome

This outdoor theater opened in summer of 1910 and first appears on the 1911 map, on a site which was a vacant lot in 1905. It was a typical structure of the airdome type, notable only for the fencing being corrugated iron rather than wood, and the tapering of the rear to a stage and scenery.

The theater remains on the 1916 map, although without the stage. By 1924, it had been replaced by a large garage, which (with some rather awful remodels) remains today as an office supply store.

From the April 1, 1910 issue of The Nickelodeon: “PRATT, KANS.-Messrs. Rice and Bays have purchased a site on which they will erect an airdome.”

That must be this one. The was another airdome on the other side of the street to the south, but it doesn’t appear until the 1916 map.
