1931 Christmas in Wausau, Wisconsin

This photo was taken in front of The Grand Theater in 1931. The truck is stacked high with toys for needy families. Several organizations participated in this annual Christmas toy drive. Among them were The Grand Theater and the Wausau Area Softball Association. The North Ends was the name of one of the ball teams. Other teams in the league were the South Ends, the Grant Giants, the Erving Yanks and the Rothschild Papers.

The Grand Theater opened in 1927 and Frank Welter (right) became its first manager. He was succeeded by Vic Geisel (center, gray coat) into the 1940’s. Names of others in this photo are unknown.

The title of the film was The New Adventures of “Get Rich Quick Wallingford”. Jimmy Durante’s second film. Ticket price ….25 cents.
