David and Pam Scott have transformed this old theatre into the Graham’s entertainment hotspot. By restoring the city’s historic National Theatre, they built an entertainment complex that has revitalized the downtown area.
The National Theatre first opened in 1920. The Scotts purchased the National Theatre in 1990 and soon added two additional screens, a video arcade, a pizza shop, a miniature golf course, and a 1950’s-themed restaurant.
Before the transformation, the 81-year-old theatre was an eyesore of dilapidation. The Scotts bought the theatre for $50,000 and quickly spent an additional $100,000 restoring the National Theatre. The theatre re-opened in November 1990. In 1993, it was listed in the National Register of Historic Places. Since the theatre was doing so well, they decided to purchase the building next door and install a second screen, restaurant, and a mini-golf course.
Since the reopening, money has poured into downtown Graham, with over $6 million spent in renovations. In March of 2023 Dave & Pam Scott sold the National Theatre to Burkett Enterprises of Graham, TX.

I first read about you in American Profile. My wife and I am also from a small Texas town (Luling) where there is an old theatre, but this one had become a factory in 1974. We bought it to save it and it is now an antique mall. We had to spend hundreds of hours cleaning and repairing. I would like to talk to you about the golf and other things you have done. Would you send me your e-mail address? My law practice also has supported what we are doing with the Stanley Theatre.
The National Theatre is located at 524 Oak Street, when it was a single screen theatre it seated 500 people.

A 1972 photo of the National Theater in Graham showing “The Little Ark”
I’m a Three Stooges Fan Club member, trying to confirm a personal appearance by the “3” Stooges (Moe Larry and Shemp), on a bill with Wee Bonnie Baker, the Barretts and Don Hooton, after an appearance by the A.B. Marcus Revue. The movie “Queen of Burlesque” was also shown. I have a display ad, but no dates (or town shown). Believe it was the Summer of 1946, and may have been Shemp’s first appearance after Curly’s strokes. The National was advertised as air cooled and showed a phone number of JA-7863.
Any help will be appreciated.
