The Patterson Theatre was opened on July 29, 1937. The 1950 Film Daily Year Book included the Patterson Theatre on Del Puerto Avenue, 400 seats.
In November 1956, Boxoffice magazine wrote that Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Fink had remodeled the Patterson Theatre and renamed it the Del Puerto Theatre. The note said the Patterson Theatre was built in 1937.
In 2004, the Modesto Bee reported that the Patterson city council was discussing buying and refurbishing the Del Puerto Theatre. It said, “The theatre went silent in the 1980’s.”
By 2007 the building was in use as a furniture and home decor store. It was still open in 2016. By 2022 it was ‘For Lease’.

Boxoffice, Dec. 8, 1956: “The Del Puerto, formerly the Patterson in Patterson, has installed CinemaScope. In addition, the front and boxoffice have been remodeled, the interior has been refurnished and the new name has gone up on the marquee. Mr. and Mrs. E. L. Fink purchased the theatre from Richard Bear in 1932.”
BTW, Vada Pink’s 1981 obituary in the Modesto Bee mentioned that the E stood for Elmer. “She began a free Christmas show and party for children in 1932 and distributed Christmas presents. The Christmas party was continued for nearly 30 years.”
As reported in the Modesto Bee, the Patterson Theatre opened July 29,1937.
The building is still there at 40 S. Del Puerto Avenue.
