The Princess Theatre can be traced back to 1914 in the Red Bluff Daily News. On October 27, 1916, the former Princess Theatre reopened as the Ajax Theatre. Among the improvements were a large comfortable balcony where smoking was permitted and only up to date pictures shown.

On January 2, 1918, a fire of unknown origin destroyed the Ajax Theatre. An unconfirmed rumor was that two explosions had been heard.

On April 3, 1919, it was reported A.E. Miller was opening a service station on the property formerly occupied by the Ajax Theatre. The property was described as being across from the railroad tracks.
