Granada Theatre

The New Empire Theatre was listed in Motion Picture Directory 1914-15 on Walnut Street and confirmed by Sanborn Maps 1912 at then 339 Walnut Street. It later became 413 Walnut Street, the second building across the alley from the post office.

Motion Picture News July 27, 1918, reported W. Henning of the New Empire Theatre had taken over the Opera House, formerly owned by J.W. Deeds, and is remodeling it. On April 22, 1922 the New Empire Theatre was renamed Granada Theatre.

By 2025 the building was in use as a pawn shop.

Correction/update: Change to Granada Theatre. The news clipping in the photo section reports the New Empire Theatre reopened as the Granada Theatre on April 22, 1922. Film Daily Year Book 1926: 250 seats.

The September 5, 1925 Moving Picture World had this item: “James J. Wood, whose theatre at Red Bluff, Cal., was badly damaged by fire recently, is making use of a small theatre until a decision can be reached in regard to whether the Orpheum Theatre will be repaired or whether a new house will be necessary.”

The Orpheum theatre that had been damaged was the aka Red Bluff Opera House, later the first State Theatre, finally destroyed by another fire in 1944. The small theater referenced in the item was probably the Granada.
