Located in Irvine, North Ayrshire. The Picture Palace (aka Palace Picture House) was opened by the A.S. Blair circuit in the early-1920’s. Around 1930 it was equipped with a RCA sound system. In April 1946 the Blair circuit was purchased by George Palmer and it joined his Associated G.P. Cinemas chain. It was closed around 1954 and began use as a storage facility.

Following the fire which destroyed the George Cinema (former Kyle Cinema) in February 1964, George Palmer revamped and reopened his Palace Cinema and renamed it George Cinema. This lasted a while, but the building had a compulsory Purchase order put on it for redevelopment of the area, and it was demolished.

Not to be outdone, George Palmer took out a lease on the former Greens Picturedrome/Rex Cinema and following a £100,000 refurbishment he reopened it as the George Cinema (it has its own page on Cinema Treasures)
