Odeon Luxe Peterborough

In Peterborough, the Queensgate Shopping Centre opened in the late-1970’s. In July 2018, a £60m extension was announced that would include a 10-screen, IMAX-equipped multiplex. This was to be operated by Odeon, but that circuit pulled out and Empire stepped in. Construction began in March 2020, and it was expected that the cinema would be open in late-2021.

It is unclear what led to further delays, even taking into account the Covid pandemic, but the project was especially derailed when the Empire circuit went into administration in July 2023. Then, in March 2024, it was announced that Odeon would be taking the cinema on after all, and an Odeon Luxe duly opened on 17th November 2024.

This has ‘only’ eight screens, but it does include the promised IMAX auditorium. Seating capacities are: Screen 1(IMAX):201, Screen 2:37, Screen 3:71, Screen 4:77; Screen 5:77, Screen 6:71, Screen 7:81 and Screen 9:39. In addition, Screens 4 and 5 each have six of the circuit’s signature “VIP beds” arranged along the front row.

Screen 1 has IMAX 3D and IMAX Immersive Audio, while the others are equipped with Dolby Digital Sound. Screens 3 and 7 also have RealD 3D capability.

In the opening week, from Sunday 17th November to Sunday 24th November, all seats, in all formats, were £4. The major new releases were children’s favourite “Paddington in Peru” and blockbuster sequel “Gladiator II”.
