Gem Theatre

Moving Picture can be found at this location on Sanborn Maps 1908. A report from the Humboldt Times December 3, 1910, reported Pettengill and Pettengill have become owners of the Gem Theatre. The local Minor Theatre (also on Cinema Treasures) was also operated by the Pettengills until selling it in 1915. CT has a photograph of the Minor Theatre with “Pettengills’ Minor Theatre” above the entrance.

Although the Gem Theatre is in American Motion Picture Directory 1914-1915, the Historical Sites Society Of Arcata notes the Plaza Garage was built on the site in 1913 and the 1919 maps show it as the Plaza Garage and by 1941, there were five different shops.
