This small, short-lived theater opened around 1940 as the Esquire Theater on the corner of N. Illinois Street and Chicago Street. By the late-1940’s, it was renamed the Plains Theater. It closed in November 1950, but reopened in Spring of 1951. It finally closed in 1963 and later was razed to make way for a church.

Motion Picture Herald, Jan. 19, 1952: “The Plains, Plainfield, Ill., part of the Anderson circuit, has closed.”
“Closed in November 1950 and re-opened a few months later in the spring of 1951 due to “demand after 4 theaters closed in Joliet.” Permanently closed in 1963.” Additional history credit Plainfield Historical Society.
