Clementon Cinema

The Clementon Mini-Mall was a small plaza that launched in July of 1974. Movie House Corporation decided to build an automated luxury cinema in the center the next year. The 300-seat Clementon Cinema opened on September 5, 1975 with Jacqueline Susann’s “Once is not Enough”. The booth featured 2 Ashcroft Suprex projectors. The tagline of the venue was “Where Moviegoing is a Pleasure”. Apparently, the locals did not concur.

The theater did not find its audience finally trying X-rated fare in the Fall of 1977. It closed not long after its second anniversary on December 18, 1977 with C.J. Laing with “Slippery When Wet”. Movie House Corp. declared bankruptcy and theater and its contents were auctioned off in March of 1978. The theater’s former spot is still within the renamed Clemonton Crossing Shopping Center though converted for other retail purposes.
