Located in the Schoneberg district in the south of the city centre. The Sportpalast was opened on 17th November 1910 as a huge indoor sporting arena. In 1919 it was converted into a 3,013-seat cinema, with the majority of seats on the main orchestra floor. Surrounding the main floor on three sides were a series of slightly raised boxes each of which contained 9-seats. Above them were two sets of slips extending to the proscenium which also contained seats.
In 1953 it was equipped with CinemaScope and the seating capacity was reduced to 2,500-seats. In July 1958 it was equipped with Cinemiracle and screened “Windjammer:The Voyage of the Christian Radich” on its huge screen. For this presentation the seating capacity had been reduced to 1,732-seats. The Filmtheater im Sportspalast was closed in 1966 and was later demolished. Apartment housing has been built on the site.
