Kammerlichtspiele im Haus Vaterland

Located in the Tiergarten district in the city centre, close to the Potsdamer Bahnhof (railway station). The Lichtspieltheater im Piccadillyhaus was opened in 1912 with 1,198-seats: 886-seats in the orchestra and 312-seats in the balcony which included slips reaching along the sidewalls to the proscenium. It was designed by architect Franz Schwechten. It was soon renamed Kammerlichtspiele im Haus Potsdam. In 1914 it was renamed Kammerlichtspiele im Haus Vaterland. Around 1920 it was taken over by Ufa and renamed Ufa-Haus am Potsdamer Platz. It was remodeled in 1927/1928 to the plans of architect Carl Stahl-Urach and the seating capacity was increased to 1,415-seats with 1,000-seats in the orchestra and 415-seats in the balcony. It was destroyed by bombs in 1943 and the ruins were demolished in 1973. An office block stands on the site in 2024.
