On October 18, 1919, the Healdsburg Enterprise headlined the destruction on October 16 of Truitt’s Theatre, also known as the Victory Theatre, in a $30,000 fire. The report noted the building was erected by Ransome Powell in 1870 and was used by the Liberty Theatre people until their new theater on West Street was completed. There is no indication that the theater reopened, except later for the Big Tent Theatre, which was advertised as “Old Location of Truitt’s Theater.”

Also remembered as the Healdsburg Opera House, the Tribune reported Truitt’s Opera House was built in 1871 as a skating rink. The Healdsburg Museum reports prior to May 1915 it was called Hansen’s Theatre.

The Tribune’s 44 years-ago files on February 25, 1960, reported this: “The Healdsburg Opera House will be formally opened Saturday afternoon of this week as a First-class photo-play house. Attractions will be presented every evening at 7:30 and matinees will be given every Saturday and Sunday at 2 p.m. A completely new and modern picture plant has been installed, in addition to other improvements, and an expert operator has been employed. The prices of admission will be 5c for children for all shows and 10c for adults, excepting for Monday and Tuesday nights, when the Triangle pictures will be shown. The admission for these shows will be 30c for adults. The best comedies on the market will be shown every night. The famous Keystone comedies are part of the program.
