Mephisto Ulm

Situated in Ulm, in the south German state of Baden-Württemberg, the Mephisto Ulm is believed to have opened in the late-1990’s or early-2000’s.

It was acquired by Cineplex in 2013 and joined their “art-house family” in the city, which also includes the Obscura and the Lichtburg (see separate Cinema Treasures entries) the latter of which is just around the corner from the Mephisto Ulm.

A bar/café occupies the ground floor of a modest apartment building, with the Mephisto Ulm operating in the basement.

The two very comfortable screens have 176 seats (Kino 1) and 59 seats (Kino 2). Kino 2, at least, has particularly attractive lighting, which changes colour. (This is only hinted at in my photographs.) A suitably ‘Mephistophelian’ image plays, pre-show, on the tabs in both screens.
