The Spruce Pines Drive-In was opened by 1952 when it was operated by Tom Cooper. By 1953/1954 it had been renamed Tri-County Drive-In, still operated by Tom Cooper and was still open in 1955.

Looks like it was located at the current address of 2490 US-19E, Spruce Pine, NC 28777. However Kenmore might be able to find a better address.
My guess is that this was always known as the Tri-County Drive-In.
The Exhibitor, May 9, 1951: “The Tri-County Drive-In, Spruce Pines, N. C., opened. Owner is Tom Cooper.”
Boxoffice, Feb. 3, 1975: “Exhibitors visiting on (Charlotte) Filmrow recently were Tom Cooper and Rogers Garland, Carolina Tri-County Drive-In, Spruce Pines”
The address looks good to me.
The screen lasted until at least 2016 along the remnants of the drive-in which was covered in undergrowth for quite some time.
The screen has been removed and the entire area was razed so that it is now unrecognizable.
