The Concord Airport Drive-In was opened by Concord Airport manager and owner Lewis J. Whitley and partner Gilbert L. Faw and on January 19, 1948 with Cheryl Walker in “Secrets of a Model". It was initially listed as a ‘Portable’ drive-in with a 200-car capacity. The operators would launch the Badin Road Drive-In just two months later in Albemarle.
Just four months after the Airport Drive-In debuted in Concord, competition came from the Carolina Drive-In, a 320-car facility. The Concord Airport Drive-In appears to have a relatively short history and was still open in 1955. The original Concord Airport appears to have ceased operations in 1955 with the land repurposed in 1980.
