This small-town theatre was opened around 1928 and was listed as a silent movie theatre in the 1931 edition of Film Daily Yearbook. In 1932 it was listed as a (Closed) silent movie theatre and failed to appear in any other edition of FDY. However, it appears on the 1935 Sanborn. It was located in a one story wooden building with a brick front. This structure does not appear on the 1914 map, and it’s unclear exactly when it was built.
Ashton never got larger than about 600 people, and as roads improved, patrons likely made the drive to Sheldon or Sibley. The Roben Theatre closed many years ago, and the site is now a community center that was likely built around 1970.

The Film Board of Trade report in Film Daily of January 13, 1929 listed the Roben Theatre at Ashton as a new house. It had probably opened in late 1928.
