The cinema was opened in the fall of 2018 in the new Redi shopping centre, located in the Kalasatama (“fish port”) neighborhood of Helsinki. It was originally operated by the Estonian cinema chain Cinamon. On that note, when the cinema opened, many hoped that the Finnish cinema industry, which is largely dominated by Finnkino, would finally have some much-needed competition.
In January 2022, Cinamon announced that it would end the operation of its Redi cinema due to financial difficulties caused by Covid restrictions, and thus withdraw from Finland. Shortly thereafter, it was announced that the cinema will be taken over by BioRex, which is Finland’s second largest cinema chain.
