Princess Theater

The original Princess Theater (sometimes called Kobayashi Theater) in Lower Paia was built in 1936 by Mamoru Takitani, on land leased from Nobuichi Kobayashi. Upon the expiration of the 5-year lease in 1941, Takitani bought his own land around the corner and up the road, and built the New Princess Theater.

The original theater became a USO during World War II. Later, it was the site of the famous Charley’s Restaurant and Saloon from 1972-2021. It was then demolished and is now a paid parking lot.
