Originally constructed in 1877 as a Grange Hall, this large three story brick building was remodeled in 1884 to serve as city hall, with an opera house on the second and third floors.
The opera house was known for some time as the Grand Opera House, but by 1905, it had changed to the Beverly Theatre. By about 1914, movies were being shown, but may have stopped within a few years of the commodious New Theatre opening just a few doors down. Although the opera house is still shown on the 1921 map, it is not listed in cinema guides by 1926.
While the original building was set well back from the street, a 1927 remodel added a new façade and extended the building to be flush with its neighbors. The building today is a city courthouse.
