In March 1913 Morris Wohl, Louis Friedman and Isadore Siegfried incorporated the Cosmopolitan Amusement Company. In early-1914 the company had plans prepared for remodelling and equipping a storefront on Broadway for moving pictures. The new showplace opened on May 23, 1914, with a violinist and pianist accompanying J. Warren Kerrigan in “Samson”.
Morris and Jerome Wohl managed the Cosmo Theatre until 1919. Local showmen Nick & Peter Bikos purchased the building and the lease in May 1919. Two months later the Cosmo Theatre became part of Venus Amusement Company, which combined the theatre interest of the Bikos brothers and local exhibitor Andrew Obreshk. Venus operated the Cosmo Theatre and six other theatres - The Star Theatre in Whiting, IN and in Gary, IN the first Indiana Theatre, the Venus Theatre Gem Theatre, Lyric Theatre and Royal Theatre. In September 1922 the Cosmo Theatre and the nearby Grand Theatre became part of the S.J. Gregory Theatrical Company. Both theatres were redecorated and thereafter run locally by Peter Kalleres, who had been directing the Grand Theatre. In 1928 the Grand Theatre and Cosmo Theatre became part of the Kalleres’s Grand Amusement Company.
Never wired for sound, the Cosmo theatre was closed in 1931.
