Mullens Drive-In

In 1953 Bob Carrico, Jr. and his wife, Betty, built the Mullens Drive-In operating it for several years. It opened on July 30, 1953 with Allan Ladd in “Red Mountain”. The venue was located on a wicked curve between Herndon and Mullens.

Benny Hartley took on the venue and showed X-rated fare during the 1970 and 1971 season and the porno chic era of movie exhibition. The 1972 appears to be the final season with delinquent taxes due in 1973. In 1976, the land was sold for $23,000 to construct a new elementary and middle school. The drive-in was razed and the school is still in existence in the 2020’s.
