I cannot find a lot of information of this theater. So unfortunately it’s opening and closing dates were not revealed yet.

Found it! It was last known as “Americana Cinemas” and closed for the final time in the Spring of 1988.

I’m pretty sure that this first opened as the “Showcase Cinemas I & II” before changing its name to the “Americana Cinemas 1 & 2” a short time later in the early-1970s. Throughout its history, the Americana was operated by William Blair Theatres, CinemaCal Enterprises, and Silver Screen Amusements.

California Cinema Properties Circuit opened here as the American Theatres I & II with “2001: A Space Odyssey” and “Funny Girl” on September 22, 1970. The venue was automated with two identical 350-seat auditoriums.

Actually, the last advertised showing dates forward to April 22, 1988 with one of the screens showing “Stand And Deliver”.

  • Also to note is that this was never once known as Showcase Cinemas I & II.
