Located in Stockton, across the Hunter River from Newcastle, NSW. The New Masonic Hall was a magnificent brick structure, which had an upstairs hall above the main auditorium. The main 600-seat auditorium was opened as a cinema on 20th March 1922 with the Australian film “The Blue Mountain Mystery”. In the early-1940’s it was taken over by the Fullers Theatres Pty. Ltd. chain. The Southern Cross Theatre was closed on 1st August 1959.
The building was destroyed by fire in August 1992. Housing has been built on the site.
