Aha! This was where I saw Chinatown maybe in ‘76 or '77, not at Telegraph Rep as I’d thought. I do recall seeing it in a second floor auditorium, very cramped, seemingly makeshift. Anyone have a similar recollection of this theater’s interior?

There’s a bit of an irony here in that when Rasputin annexed the former Sunset (perhaps aware of its past life as a theater), they installed a marquee that looks more like a movie-house marquee than any the Sunset ever had during its life as an actual movie house.

In the 1970s, the Sunset briefly ran the same type of cult and off-Hollywood titles that were popular at the Rialto 4. Unlike the Rialto, the Sunset was done up in the style of a true moviehouse and offered a pleasant viewing experience. I recall that it quickly switched to a porn house.

In 1973-1975, it did show hard porn.
