1921: Oxford Picture House opens with 792 seats, on the corner of Oxford Road, Foundry Street and Sandy Lane.
1930: Re-named Oxford Super Cinema when a Western Electric(WE) sound system was installed. By 1944 it was operated by Brennan’s Cinemas Ltd.
1960: Both the Princess Cinema and the Oxford Super Cinema close.
1965: Oxford Cinema reopens.
1966: Oxford Cinema closes.
1971: Reopens as a night club: Hiccups and later Drifters Disco.
1983: Building demolished.

Opened as the Oxford Picture House it was built for a company of the same name. Seating is given as 792. It was later called the Oxford Super-cinema. After Cinemascope was installed the proscenium was altered and the seating capacity reduced to 768.
The Oxford was used as a nightclub called ‘Hiccups’ until the 1970’s. After lying empty for a number of years, the site was then purchased in the early 1980’s by Morrisons supermarkets and the cinema was demolished. A petrol station now stands on the site.
