Located in the Cathcart district in the South Side of Glasgow. The Dixon Halls was screening moving pictures in 1909. In 1913 it was renamed Cathcart Picture House, operated by Cathcart Cinemas Ltd. Architect Charles J. McNair was responsible for the conversion to full time cinema use and it had 800-seats. It was reconstructed in 1928, again to the plans of architect Charles A. McNair and the seating capacity had been increased to 1,311-seats. It reopened as the Rialto Cinema on 5th November 1928.
In March 1930 it was sold to Associated British Cinemas(ABC). In 1946 it was taken over by the Associated G.P. Cinemas chain, operated by George Palmer. On 23rd December 1948 it was renamed George Cinema. It was closed in 1961.
It was converted into a 10-pin bowling alley. From 1969 it became a Jehovah’s Witness Kingdom Hall. It was demolished in February 1994 and the Jehovah’s Witness built a new Kingdom Hall on the site.
