Nearby Theaters

Located in the Cross Green district to the east of the city centre. The Picture House was opened on 30th October 1911 with “The White Chief”. It was designed by architect J.P. Crawford of Harehills, Leeds. It was operated by Messrs. White & Cohen. By 1926 it was operated by H. White & his son A. White. Around 1929 it was equipped with a Western Electric(WE) sound system. From 1953 to 1958 it was operated by the executors of of A. White and it was closed in September 1958 with Doris Day in “Teachers Pet”.

New operators took over on 15th December 1958 and it was renamed New Palladium Cinema, reopening with Ian Carmichael in “The Big Money”. It was a short lived venture closing on 15th March 1959.
