Located on the east side of S. Kansas Avenue, between SE 4th Street and SE 5th Street. The Crystal Theatre was opened by 1926. By 1957 it had been renamed Kaw Theatre. A 1962 photograph shows a view of the soon to be demolished Kaw Theatre. This area of Topeka was part of the federal government’s Urban Renewal program in the 1960’s to rehabilitate aging and decaying inner cities either by massive demolition, derelict housing clearance, or development.
