Mid-America Cinema Corp (Komm Theatres) opened the Woods Mill Cinemas on August 5, 1977 seating 450 per auditorium. Located in the Woods Mill Plaza at #21, a typical twin cracker box like the others that the Mid-America Chain was opening. The same drab deco of burgundy and brown with gold trim. This was one of the more successful twins that the Mid-America chain had until General Cinema opened the larger Chesterfield Mall cinemas down the road. The Woods Mill was taken over by RKO in April 1984 and by AMC in December 1985. It was closed in November 1987 with Donald Pleasence in “Prince of Darkness” & Molly Ringwald in The Pick-up Artist"

This theater opened much later than 1962. More like the late 70s. I remember seeing ads for a movie on Channel 11 sometime around there and the announcer saying “Starts Friday at Mid-America’s new Woods Mill”. I believe this and the Cave Spring I & II were the last theaters built by Mid-America.

In 1984 became a RKO Mid-America operation; in 1985 AMC.
AMC closed in November 1987 with the films “Prince of Darkness” and “The Pick-Up Artist.”

I think this theater was actually about 2 or 3 miles further south at Woods Mill and Clayton. Maybe the address no longer exists.

Cinema Tour lists a Four Seasons Cinema I & II which is not listed here on Cinema Treasures. The address given is 68F Four Seasons Shopping Ctr. which is at the intersection of 141/Woods Mill and Olive. Does anyone remember that one?

Utilitarian-at-best twin that I remember as having unmemorable projection and sound. Plus, I just have to make the snarky remark that it is quite unlikely that anyone is going to “Favorite” this cinema, because, honestly, why would you? :–)

I recently ran across some online archives of my old college’s student newspaper (The UMSL Current) from 1985 and 1986. There were a few movie ads in there and one had the Woods Mill Cinema listed in it. The location for the Woods Mill was given as “Hwy 40 and Woods Mill Road.” After doing a quick check of Google Maps, that location would be close to Maryville University. I also noticed a small strip center with a Dave’s World in it on South Woods Mill, just off South Outer Forty Road. Perhaps this was where the Woods Mill Cinema was located. Keep in mind the key word here is “perhaps”. :)

The theater needs to be added in the Mid-America Cinema Corp. previously-operated list.

It was later taken over by RKO in April 1984, and finally AMC in December 1985.
