The 1914 map shows ‘Moving Pictures’ being shown in a small storefront. This simple brick structure was built sometime before 1892 as part of a row of shops. It had been the home of the post office, which was still there in 1908.

Likely a very simple conversion to take advantage of the new fad, this operation had folded by 1919, when the map shows an office in this space.

Newport’s downtown has suffered a serious decline, and these buildings were demolished many years ago.
