Maximo Plaza Shopping Center / Maximo Plaza Mall was supposed to have launched theatre-less with a W.T. Grant City as its main anchor in 1979. The Plaza did launch in 1980 but, when Grants went bankrupt, Sears stepped in. Five years later, there was an opportunity to convert a location into a 350-seat Cinema ‘n’ Brewhouse by the same franchisee of two other area locations - one in Clearwater and one in Pinellas Park. This one launched on Mach 1, 1985 with “City Heat” and an advertisement that said have a brew with Bert & Clint.
The circuit that was Orlando-based Cinema ‘n’ Drafthouse in 1978 moved to Atlanta in the mid-1980’s and became the Cinema Grill Systems Circuit of Georgia in the mid-1990’s. But this location closed prior to that transition sunsetting on January 27, 1991 along with the Pinellas Park location as the concept moved on to faded multiplexes with screen counts from three to six-screens.
