The original Odeon was built on the site of the former King George Theatre and situated above retail on the ground floor facing High St. Acquired by Everard Cinemas (later HOYTS) it was expanded to 5 screens in 1992 but closed 2008 when SkyCity Cinemas opened at Queensgate Mall. Sold and currently owned by the Hutt City Baptist Church who allowed Reading to lease and refit 3 auditoriums to operate as a “Pop-Up Cinema” [2019-2023] when the Queensgate cinemas were demolished & rebuilt following earthquake damage.

Replaced by Odeon Theatre built on same site sitting atop a shopping mall open 1975 with “The Slipper & The Rose”.
