Located in the village of Howden-Le-Wear to the south of Crook, County Durham. The British Workmen’s Hall was built in 1876 and provided snooker & billiards and a reading room downstairs which contained 250 books. The upstairs was first used as a recreation room. By the 1920’s it was operating as a silent cinema, operated by a Mr. Pentall. It never seems to have been given an entry in the various editions of Kine Year Book’s. The cinema was closed in 1959. It was then used as a private club name the Blue Lagoon which was eventually closed after a police raid due to licencing irregularities. It was then used by the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides named Craig Hall.

The building was still standing in 2009 when it boarded up and unused, still the same in 2023.
