The Nite Auto Movie opened on Monday, May 23, 1949, according to reports and advertisements in The Greeneville Sun. Its first movie was “Slave Girl” starring Yvonne DeCarlo. It was on a six-acre lot, one mile east of town on Tusculum Road, with a tower 45x48 feet supporting a 30x40-foot screen. Mr. and Mrs. Ernest W. Knight were the owners.
The Nite Auto Movie was one of three “Greenville, Tenn.” theaters in the 1955-56 Theatre Catalog drive-in list, along with the Ashway Drive-In and Woodside Drive-In. It listed the Nite Auto Movie with a capacity of 250 cars, owner W. J. Hatfield of Elza Drive-In Theatres.
Boxoffice reported on February 15, 1960: “Due to a January 3 fire, the Nite Auto-Movies, Greenville, Tenn., has been closed for repairs. Owner O. G. Roaden hoped to reopen Sunday (14).”
The Nite Auto’s last advertisement in the Sun was on September 16, 1961. A 1964 topo map indicated the drive-in’s location, but a 1983 aerial photo showed only the overgrown ramps. A Hobby Lobby occupies the site today.

Boxoffice, May 9, 1960: “The Nite Auto Movies, Greeneville, Tenn., which was closed early in the year due to a fire, reopened Thursday (5). This drive-in, formerly operated by O. G. Roaden, Loyal, Ky., was taken over by E. L. Wilson, operator of the Ashway Drive-In, Greeneville.”
