November 23rd, 1966 grand opening ad in the photo section. Two other GCC cinemas opened on the same day.

Wishful thinking – that’s part of the sign of the neighboring business which was set back from the street.

Looking at the far left of the picture of the Crown, it looks like something shaped like a W…or maybe a crown…is on the roof. Was that true or am I just a victim of wishful thinking? :)

Opened as the Savoy December 1936.
Closed as the Savoy June 1965.

Reopened as the Crown November 1966.
Closed as the Crown January 1983.

1936 seating capacity of 632. Architect firm of Johnson and Maack.

In 1966 re-do architect listed as George Berg. Seating capacity reduced to 420.

The Crown has reopened as a banquet hall—complete with stage—under the original Savoy name.
