The Savoy Theatre opened December 25, 1936, originally seating 632. It was later renamed Crown Theatre and was part of the Wehrenberg chain. It was located in the heart of the shopping district in downtown Ferguson.
A long time mainstay of the Wehrenberg chain, in 1966, the theatre was completely gutted and remodeled by Wehrenberg and they started a first run policy. This lasted until the neighborhood changed and the shopping district gradually dwindled to just a few shops.
The Crown Theatre closed in 1993 and today the building is home to a banquet hall named the Savoy.

Looking at the far left of the picture of the Crown, it looks like something shaped like a W…or maybe a crown…is on the roof. Was that true or am I just a victim of wishful thinking? :)
Wishful thinking – that’s part of the sign of the neighboring business which was set back from the street.
November 23rd, 1966 grand opening ad in the photo section. Two other GCC cinemas opened on the same day.
