Empire Theatre

The 1913 Sanborn shows a ‘Moving Picture Theatre’ operating in the western storefront of a two story brick commercial block, which was built sometime before 1890.

This space had long been associated with metalworking, and the 1906 map shows stoves being sold here, with a tin shop in the rear. The upper story was the location of a hall (fraternal or otherwise is unclear).

This was likely a very basic arrangement, and by 1921 the space is a poolroom. The structure is very well preserved today, and this half of the ground floor is home to a Mexican grocery.
