On January 25, 2004, the San Diego Union-Tribune published a history of Escondido theatres.

In 1912 George Emmott opened the 450-seat Emmott Theatre on the former site of the Airdome (1909 to 1912). In 1913 he sold the theatre and it was renamed the Midget Theatre and a few month later it became the Princess Theatre. It was sold again in 1914 to Frank Reynolds who sold the theatre in 1919.

The theatre finally was purchased by Newton Oliver Emert, who had plans to build a new theatre. Mr. Emert opened his new theatre called the Kinema on December 23, 1920, and the Princess Theatre became a billiard parlor.

The Union-Tribune confirms the First Republic Bank is the location of the former Princess Theatre.
