Midway Drive-In

The Midway Drive-In was opened a few months after the Yam Drive-In in 1950 and remained in competition with the former until the owner of the Yam Drive-In purchased it and closed it in 1957.

Advertisements in its final months were for ‘Adults Only’ films, indicating that it had lost the competition with the Yam Drive-In.

Uploaded photos of pages from the Opelousas Daily World with ads for the Midway; one for standard fare, one for adults.

Found It!

The address was 212 Briley Ave, Opelousas, LA. The drive-in was located north of Opelousas. A 1969 aerial shows the drive-in demolished. I’m pretty sure this is the drive-in since the exit road is now called “Midway Exit Drive”.

The drive-in was somewhat unusual as a row of houses sat between the entrance and the HWY 182. So technically, the entrance address would be at the end of Briley Avenue and not from the highway itself.

Today, a business sits on the property with no trace left.

It actually opened almost exactly a month after the Yam opened, with the Midway Drive-In opened on September 24, 1950 with a rerelease of “Trail Of The Lonesome Pine”.
