Claudia Erickson of the Preston Citizen, in her series of local history, provides information on the Oak Theatre as well as other theatres of the past.

Opened as the Zeus Theatre around 1911-1912, it closed in 1927 and the Oak Theatre, formerly located at 85 N. Main Street, moved into that location.

The Oak Theatre was last advertised in the Citizen News July 2, 1930, with William Boyd in “The Flying Fool”. Reported in the same issue was the planned reconstruction of the Isis Theatre, which opened September 3 1930.

In 2004 the city of Preston had a shot of fame when Preston’s Jared and Jarusha Hess’ film “Napoleon Dynamite” was filmed there using buildings and houses as backdrops and citizens as extras. With a budget of $400,00 it went on to earn over $44 million.
