IMAX Victoria, located in the Royal BC Museum, seats 369 and has a screen 61 feet high and 85 feet wide with 12 channel immersive sound. Victoria News notes that about 356,000 attend the IMAX every year.
In addition to nature and educational films they play retro films like the “Batman Trilogy” and newer Hollywood releases, while maintaining a library of over 40 films for schools to choose from for special screenings.
The Royal BC Museum was built in 1967 and in June 1998 the IMAX was opened as National Geographic IMAX Theatre by Destination Cinema Inc., who sold the theatre to the museum in August 2020 for $3.8 million.
