- Solomon built the first post-World War II theatre in Yazoo City. It was a new 670-seat theatre at the cost of $15,000 on S. Main Street. The Palace Theatre opened in 1947 and Tex Ritter appeared live on its stage in the venue’s formative days. Its main floor seating was reserved for White patrons with a balcony for persons of color.
The theatre screened Vincent Price in “The Tingler” in Percepto with three screenings on December 31, 1959 - its final screenings. The Palace Theatre was gutted by fire that night - likely due in part to the Percepto wiring - as a short circuit fire after the screenings had concluded ended the Palace’s run. The operators decided to restore the vacant Yazoo Theatre rather than salvage the Palace Theatre.
The fire-gutted structure stayed up 11 years as an eyesore until it was tidied up by the city in 1971. Today the roofless building still has its four walls standing.

“Demolished” might not be quite the right designation, as the facade and many of the interior structural elements remain.
They often say demolished when there’s no auditorium. It’s sort of misleading, since there’s still a building to look at (like the nice old theater on Cherokee, which they list as ‘demolished’)
