Showplace Theatre 1-7

Located in McHenry County’s largest city, the Showcase Theatres (or Showcase I-II for secondary) in Crystal Lake opened as a twin on September 28 1973, known to be Crystal Lake’s largest theatre at the time. In 1974 it was renamed Showplace Theatres

On November 29th, 1976, McHenry County Sheriff reported 30-year-old Lorraine L. Menich of Cary suffered an injury in a collision in front of the Showplace I-II.

On December 23, 1977, the theatre converted into a quad and was renamed Showplace I-IV (or Showplace I-II-III-IV for secondary until 1984; and at the time it was renamed as Showplace 1-4, or Showplace Theatres 1-4).

As September 1986, the Showplace Theatre is once again converted into a 7-screener and was once again renamed to Showplace 1-7.

On November 27th, 1994, owners said that plans were made about the Regal Showplace 16, meaning that the Showplace Theatre 1-7 will close its doors in the future.

On February 7th, 1995, the Northwest Herald of Woodstock, Illinois on Page 1 says that the Showplace 1-7 Theatre ended up annexing to the city in months ahead due to a major expansion.

Unfortunately, the theatre continued to last until a year later, and the Showplace Theatre 1-7 ended up closing their doors in early-1996. As of May 25, 1996, Rhyan Management (who owned Regal) deserve many plans to gut the thearre and their 7-screens.

As of February 1997, the theatre was converted into a civic center for a short period of time. Then after a couple years, it was converted into a Chrysler, Dodge and Jeep dealership (as Crystal Lake Chrysler-Dodge-Jeep) until 2012. Nowadays, Brilliance Honda of Crystal Lake is now built on its site.

I Found This Not Too Long Ago That Crystal Lake’s Twin Actually First Opened As The “Showcase Theatres” On September 28, 1973 With “Night Watch” At Screen 1 And “Live And Let Die” At Screen 2. The Theater Changed Its Name From “Showcase” To “Showplace” Less Than A Year Later In 1974. The Name Confused Me Because I Thought It First Opened As The “Showplace”.

After Running As A Quad For A While Since December 23, 1977, The Showplace Became A 7-Screener In August Or September 1986.
